NFC Explained

NFC Explained

NFC is an acronym that stands for Near Field Communication, and allows two electronic devices to communicate with one another.

When two NFC enabled devices come in close contact with each other (in the form of a “Tap”) they can send data and make secure transactions.

You may ask: What does that mean for me?

It has existed on our mobile devices for approximately 10 years, and has introduced itself and even eased its way into our daily lives in the form of contactless payments at the checkout counter through services such as Apple Pay and Google Pay.

NFC technology is not limited to the checkout counter at your local grocery store, nor is it limited to purchases either. It can also send commands to your device like:

  • Dial a phone number
  • Send an email to
  • Launch a social media app and automatically go to a specific profile

If we examine our our daily lives and rituals, we can see areas where a physical action (“Tapping your phone”) can be automated with an electronic response (i.e. “Call Mom in case of emergency” or “Launch my online gym schedule”, etc.)

Tap Source products are designed to deliver NFC technology is a user friendly format such as tokens, decals/stickers and wearable/usable items.
